OLGT 2023-28: SNAP: Massachusetts SNAP Emergency Allotments

Date:
Author:
DTA

Due to the end of the Federal SNAP emergency allotments, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is providing temporary state funded SNAP emergency allotments for eligible households in the months of March, April, and May. Clients will receive these benefits as a supplement in April, May, and June. This supplement will provide clients with additional nutritional supports as COVID-19 related programs end. The first of these payments is planned to be available on April 7, 2023.

The Massachusetts SNAP emergency allotments are 40% of the difference between the client’s maximum benefit level for their household size and their approved monthly benefit amount, or the base amount of $38, whichever is higher. Subject to funding, the Massachusetts SNAP emergency allotments may need to be adjusted. Any adjustments will be communicated along with an email confirmation of the scheduled date for the state-funded supplement.

Clients will be notified of this new supplement via notice, text and DTA Connect alerts. Additionally, Mass.gov/ExtraCOVIDSNAP is being updated with information for clients regarding these new supplements. Staff are advised to refer clients to this website for additional information.
