OLGT 2023-04: Cross Program: Extended Parole Period for Non-SI Parolees or “Humanitarian Parolees” from Afghanistan
On September 30, 2022, the President signed into law a continuing resolution including a provision that amends the Afghanistan Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022. This amendment provides an extension to the period of parole under which Non-SI or “Humanitarian Parolees” from Afghanistan may be eligible for SNAP, TAFDC and EAEDC benefits.
Afghan nationals, citizens, or those who last habitually lived in Afghanistan who are granted parole between July 31, 2021, and December 16, 2022, are eligible to receive resettlement assistance, entitlement programs (including SNAP, TAFDC and EAEDC), and other benefits available to refugees admitted under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
These individuals were previously eligible only if granted parole by September 30, 2022. Non-SI Parolees from Afghanistan are not subject to a waiting period and are immediately eligible for benefits as long as they meet all other financial and non-financial eligibility requirements.
No Afghan refugee applications are to be screened out or denied prior to consulting with the Procedural mailbox.
