OLGT 2021-91: SNAP: Bay State CAP Clients Reporting Medical Expenses
Clients on Bay State CAP cannot receive a medical expense deduction while on Bay State CAP. However, there are times when a client would benefit from being removed from Bay State CAP and placed on regular SNAP, once medical expenses and other deductions are considered. Staff must reach out to clients who indicate that they have medical expenses or submit medical expenses to determine their actual shelter expenses and SUA type, since they are often not recorded in BEACON for Bay State CAP households.
This information is necessary to determine if the client will receive a higher SNAP benefit remaining on Bay State CAP or if they would receive a higher benefit amount by crediting them with the medical expenses and switching the household to regular SNAP.
