Public Housing Redevelopment Residents' Bill of Rights
The Massachusetts Union of Public Housing Tenants (Mass Union) has worked with its members and the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute has worked with legal services advocates, primarily at Greater Boston Legal Services, to create this Public Housing Redevelopment Residents' Bill of Rights to articulate principles about how public housing should be protected, preserved and expanded in Massachusetts and to urge policy makers and other stakeholders to adopt these principles as new programs, guidelines, and projects emerge. This document includes references to laws and existing programs, as well as specific development documents into which residents, with their partners, have had input. This is a living document and Mass Union and Mass Law Reform shall continue to incorporate feedback from residents and supporters. Documents referred in the Bill of Rights are available below.
On April 26, 2024, attorneys Chhaya Kotwani and Mary Lu Mendonca from Greater Boston Legal Services did a presentation to the legal services Housing Coalition on the Preservation of Public Housing. Below is the power point from that presentation.
