OLGT 2021-80: Cross Programs: Pandemic Funding Under the Chafee Foster Care Program (Chafee Program)

Under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood (Chafee program) received $400 million in additional funding. Each state has flexibility in how their portion of the Chafee program funds are distributed to recipients. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has issued a one-time payment of these additional Chaffee funds to eligible youth.

Pandemic payments received from the Chafee program are considered non- countable for SNAP, EAEDC and TAFDC.
