"This publication represents the culmination of a multi-year National Center for State Courts (NCSC) project aimed at addressing Limited English Proficient challenges in the courts. The project is funded by the State Justice Institute and consists of a pre-summit assessment of courts, a summary of the National Summit on Language Access in the Courts which was held in 2012, this National Call to Action publication, and this publication's distribution and promotion. The Call to Action is intended to be used by jurisdictions to improve their LEP services.

First, it presents an overview of important data collected during the assessment of the courts, which was conducted prior to convening the Summit. Second, it provides a summary of the highlights of the Summit and the priority areas that the state delegates in attendance identified. Lastly, the publication provides a series of Action Steps that states can use as a guide to implement or improve their language access programs. NCSC hopes that the Call to Action will serve as a helpful road map to jurisdictions as they work toward improving services to LEP litigants."
