Letter to EEC: Child Care Appeal Issues
Date:
Letter from GBLS's Melanie Malherbe to the Department of Early Education and Care regarding EEC's unlawful deprivation of families' rights to financial assistance.
Issues addressed include
- The lack of authority for a 3-year bar EEC imposes where it has determined the family improperly received child care assistance.
- Unlawful limitations on appeal rights.
- Arbitrary decision-making, including conclusive reliance on vehicle registration or mail delivery to conclude that the father of a child is in the home.
- Failure to comply with agency policies regarding notice of "improper" payments.
The letter refers to two cases filed in court by Weayonnoh Nelson-Davies of Central West Justice Center and a case filed by Sarah Levy of GBLS, a fourth case in which Melanie entered an appearance, and cases handled by Naomi Meyer of GBLS.
