The Governor’s FY2017 Budget Proposal for MassHealth (Medicaid) and Health Reform Programs
The Massachusetts Medicaid Policy Institute (MMPI), a program of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, is pleased to share a new budget brief, The Governor’s FY2017 Budget Proposal for MassHealth (Medicaid) and Health Reform Programs.
On January 27, 2016, the governor released his budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year (FY) 2017, which begins on July 1, 2016. The governor’s budget totals approximately $39.6 billion in spending, $17.0 billion of which is designated for the state’s Medicaid program (MassHealth) and health reform programs.
Of the $17.0 billion total for health care spending, the governor’s budget includes $16.4 billion for MassHealth coverage, $230.3 million for the Health Connector, and $330.4 million for health care services for the uninsured and underinsured through the Health Safety Net Trust Fund.
This is the first in a series of FY2017 budget briefs produced by MMPI in partnership with Health Management Associates. MMPI will be publishing budget briefs at several stages in the FY2017 budget cycle, as proposals move through the state legislature.
