Federal Government's Renewed Commitment to Language Access Obligations Under Executive Order 13166 Memorandum
This Memorandum from the Office of the Attorney General Eric Holder reemphasizes the obligation that federally funded agencies have to provide language services. The Department of Justice conducted a language access survey in 2006 of federal agencies regarding language access, the results of the survey concluded that there were significant variation in the awareness of their obligation and committment to language access among these federal agencies. These finding, along with several other federal initiatives toward language access, promoted a renewed commitment to language access and full compliance with Executive Order 13166.
The Memorandum outlines several action items for federal agencies to pursue in order to be in compliance and detailed specifics regarding implementation for the action items.
