MLRI Report - SNAP EBT Access on Public College Campuses
Thousands of MA community college and four-year college students do not have the resources to eat balanced meals while attending school. Over the last 10 years, Massachusetts has implemented a number of policies to qualify more low income students for SNAP, But - NONE of the Massachusetts public colleges currently have on-campus food markets that accept SNAP EBT benefits.
This report by MLRI's Emerson National Hunger Fellow Yesenia Jimenez highlights the steps that colleges in sister-states have taken to get EBT food retailers on campus - including in CA, OH, of, MN, M, PA and WI. It includes data on what each public MA college is currently doing to address food insecurity, information on the EBT food retailer application process, and recommendations to MA state agencies and stakeholders (students, local college admistrators) to encourage more EBT retailers on campus. Check it out, take action!
